Royal Albert Dock Liverpool - Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge 2023
Royal Albert Dock Liverpool - Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge 2023
Royal Albert Dock (Canning Dock) – Sutton Weaver -
The last commercial cargoes carried on the Weaver was grain which was transported by barge, usually the 1930’s barge “Panary” between Liverpool’s Royal Seaforth grain terminal and the sight of the former Frodsham Mill at Sutton Quay on the old river. This traffic was a regular sight once or twice a week until around 2015 when the trade switched to Runcorn docks.
Frodsham has a long association with barge traffic and in the 70’s and into the 1980’s several barges at once could be observed there waiting to discharge their cargo or to take a cargo to Liverpool or Warrington so join us for this cruise down memory lane and leave the historic setting of the Albert Dock as we depart through Canning Lock into the River Mersey where we will travel in steam powered, Art Deco splendour taking in the sights along this often busy river as we sail south towards the entrance of the Manchester Ship Canal at Eastham. We will enter through the Eastham lock system and spend a couple of hours on the Manchester Ship Canal before we turn off and join the Weaver Navigation to our destination at Sutton Weaver.
