Only 100 or so rivers in the world are thought to have a bore. In Britain, the most famous bore occurs on the Severn. However, the River Dee also has a bore, and it can be seen more often than many people are aware.
This illustrated talk – which includes video footage - introduces this phenomenon as part of natural heritage of the tidal Dee downstream of Chester.
Paul Hyde will explain what a bore is, why they happen, why the Dee has one and how to know when one can be expected. He will also provide tips on how to witness this natural event including understanding timings and where to obtain the all-important tide prediction information.
The talk is intended for adults and those 15+, especially if studying Geography or Environmental Science. The talk will interest all looking for a better understanding of the natural heritage of Chester and its environs.
