Headlands to Overleigh – Walk
17 June 10:45
19 June 19:00
A wander that takes in opposite banks of the Dee as it flows around central Chester. It starts at the high ground above the river to cross the Dee using the Queen’s Park Suspension Bridge – a structure that marks its 100th anniversary this year. The tour will include an explanation of key reasons why the Romans chose the site of Deva for their legionary fortress. It will also celebrate some of Chester’s historic greenspaces and waterways history, as well as many other key features encountered along the route - some over 200 million years old, others dating from the 20th Century …and much in between. It ends in Overleigh (Old) Cemetary near to Grosvenor Road.
Paul Hyde, of Chester Civic Trust, is your guide for this 90-minute walk. Please note: the walk is not intended for children, although suitable for older teenagers. The route is not fully accessible as it includes steps.
