Dee Mills – Short Walk
Dee Mills – Short Walk
20 June 14:15
The walk will look at the River Dee Causeway (Weir), the history of the mills and the challenges of linking the upper and lower Dee for navigation purposes.
The River Dee has had a significant effect on the development of Chester; once a major port, the city has seen it used for fishing, navigation and industry before its current status as an area for recreation and leisure.
As well as the history of the Causeway and the mills that were located at its northern and southern ends, the walk will also discuss the possible uses of the mill sites in the future.
The walk will end at the site of the mill race at the southern end of the Causeway. The route includes steps to the City Walls. However, participants need not take part in this stretch of the walk.
