You can think only of Chester as the quaint Roman city nestling at the mouth of the river Dee with its unique Rows and Tudor style buildings or you can look further and see the other 36 towns and cities sharing the same name. Not only places but also people, some famous, some infamous, who bask in the name of Chester. The talk will take you on a journey to some of these faraway places, interesting people, and everyday things, which go by the name of Chester, it will be full of surprise peppered with little known stories.
John is a Cestrian brought up in Hoole, lived in Blacon where his children were born, and latterly retired to live within the city walls. He is a chartered engineer and former Professor of Electrical Engineering at University of Strathclyde who worked extensively in both the UK and overseas. John has been active in city affairs for many years and his local public service record includes chair of governors West Cheshire Collage, independent member CW&C Ethics and Standards committee, director Sustainable Blacon Ltd, vice-chair CRAG, member Chester Leaders Forum, and member Chester Race Company Liaison committee.
