Chester’s Controversies - Walk
27 June 17:45
Controversy lurks in many places within Chester. This walk takes in a selection of landmarks that have been the cause of dispute and vigorous discussion over the years!
It will visit examples of where antiquity has been preserved and destroyed. It will visit the scenes of savage atrocities that took place in Chester and ask why these stories are often passed over. It will remember controversial and often forgotten Chester luminaries and ask why we remember some and why we forget others? It will explore how the legacy of the Roman and British Empires lives on in hidden ways today and how the relationship between the Welsh, the British and the English is often mischaracterised. Most importantly you will be left with many questions to stimulate your own discussion about Chester’s amazing historical legacy.
Duration: Approx 90 minutes. Fully accessible; suitable for ages 12+.
